SLIIP: An initiative of the Sierra Leone Diaspora Network

Harnessing Collective Action in Sierra Leone

The Sierra Leone Investment Information Portal (SLIIP) was developed to address the lack of cohesive Diaspora-specific investment information on Sierra Leone. An initiative of the Sierra Leone Diaspora Network (SLDN), SLIIP was borne out of the Diaspora consultative forums held in the UK (June 2005) and in Sierra Leone (March 2006).

Sponsored by the Department for International Development (DFID) and supported by AfricaRecruit and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), SLIIP is aimed at Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora and any potential foreign investors. It will serve to provide essential information services to Sierra Leoneans and foreign companies and individuals in an effort to support Sierra Leone’s economic development. SLIIP works to complement the work of the Government of Sierra Leone and its relevant agencies.

We are committed to supporting the existing capacity in Sierra Leone, and in doing so, we work with Researchers in Sierra Leone who provide up-to-the-minute information from the 'ground'. To meet this end, SLIIP has worked with the Institute of Research and Policy Management (IRPM), and currently employs Solomon Wilson as its Researcher in Sierra Leone.

If you would like to submit report, jobs or contribute to SLIIP in any other way, please contact our offices.

Survey
Should the Diaspora support the President's 'Attitudinal Change' Campaign?

Sierra Leone has for the first time attained a credible ranking in the recently released World Bank Report on 'Doing Business 2008'. Sierra Leone ranked at 168 out of 175 in the 'Ease of Doing Business' category. This result is the culmination of months of hard work from the MTI, its former Minister Kadie Sesay and other non-governmental agencies, most noteably DFID. For more information on the Rankings, visit http://www.doingbusiness.org/economyrankings/
